DVD and VHS. Buy DVDs of your favorite movies and study them to see how a professional director structures a scene and edits the movie. Some older movies that are worth studying may not be available on DVD. If such is the case, buy a VHS tape. Perfect picture or sound quality is not critical when studying a film. Always choose wide-screen format, if available, so that you retain the original format of the movie (some films are available only in standard format, however).
